Ta-Mania!

image

Ta Marbouta had decided to celebrate their collection with their loyal customers at none other than our boutique. Of course it was an honor and I had definitely put in a lot of work into the process - Ta Marbouta is one of my favorite brands, I love Rawan Azhar’s work and how she constantly likes to keep fashion fun, playful, and classy. The theme? Well, of course, it was patterns mania, the main concept behind the entire collection which could be described as having a hint of Yayoyi Kusama’s obsession with patterns, matched with Louis Vuitton’s refinement and love of clean, dichromatic checkers.

Of course, the event was a huge hit!

Some of the most prized of clientele and public figures attended Jo Lamode’s Ta Marbouta fest. Qatari designers such as Shoaa Alghanim and Hanadi Al Malki were there, as well as Khawla Youssef - from Mrs. His Last Name  - stopped by to see what the show was about. Of course, we had Noor Al Thani, founder of Black Ires event management.

Gorgeous model Angelique was to be the object of attraction for the day. Modeling the fabulous collection, Angelique needed only the finest hair and makeup in Qatar! And the best we got: Blue Brush Hair Studio Qatar took care of getting the glamor on before the photo shoot. aThe pictures will follow up.

image

David Martinez used his golden-blue touch to give Angelique the best hairdo he could. (See the results after the jump!)

image

Alexandra Two took care of the makeup of course, she decided to go for a bit of a retro glamor sort of look, with ruby red lips and smokey black eyes.

image

Busy getting the glam on!

image

During the event, as the model was getting ready and everything was getting in place, the fashion-hungry audiencs were given the finest of treats to take care of their sweet tooth cravings.

Steaming coffee, drinks, and refreshments were served by Ladurée Paris.

Fenyal went on to serve heavenly golden cake balls and deliciously sinful cupcakes - the attendees were absolutely in love!

All we can say is: it was mouth-watering and the event was not just a feast for the eyes alone!

image

image

And now, of course, our review of some of Ta’s most tantalizing designs:

image

Angelique models this lovely piece with think, sleek black and white lines going down the collar and around the shoulder pads. A very modernized interpretation of a barcode, I must say.

image

Of course, if you’re feeling bolder there’s another choice of a similar design with much thicker, solid lines to give the abaya more rigid structure and sternness.

image

Ta is also playful. Plaid was also very, very in as we can see in these pieces from the collection.

image

The black and white plaid pattern was seen on several abayas and in several different ways - either running down the sleeves or around teh collar and down the chest.

image

And then it was time for the checkers, of course. One of my personal favorites, the abaya above is all about the simple yet stylish ckeckerboard pattern on the cuffs of the abaya and the neckline/shoulders.

image

You don’t have to have two colors if you don’t want to! Another design was this pure black abaya, whose silk texture is beautiful, it flows like melted chocolate and the tar-black of the eole outfit is stern yet glamorous and classy.

image

Of course the feedback from the attendees was positive and like after every event, I like to make sure that everyone had a great time. It’s always a pleasure making all my customers and clients feel happy, at home, and in a world where their love for fashion is all that matters!

By the end of the event, draws were made by Ta Marbota and Blue Brush. The lucky winners were granted five amazing head bands from Ta, and and Blue Brush gave away 7 free beauty sessions. Lucky you!

Tsumori Chisato is known to be one of Japan’s leading designers. With quirky, daring, and experimental techniques, Chisato is colorful, playful, fun, and above all, fashionable. With a bit of drama, unusual cuts, and cultural references, her works have been known in the fashion world

Chisato made her Qatari debut at none other than The Closet Qatar! The latest line from the designer’s collection entered the closet with a Japanese bang!

image

We were welcomed into the closet with some of the most delicious of natiev Japanese snacks and refreshment, only to feel that we are entering into a brand new culture, and we were all very excited about it to see what Chisato’s latest collection of colorful delights holds.

To feel more at home, a wonderful Japanese calligraphist was handing out papers of everyone’s name in Japanese print. It was utterly delightful

image

image

The Japanese culture is so interesting, colorful, magical - demonstrating the quirks behind their traditions, they displayed their items next to scattered, colorful origami birds - a traditional paper-folding technique invented by the Japanese. Here, you can see the origamis scattered next to some of the most colorful Chisato clutches! My favorite is the red one - what’s yours?

image

Gorgeous Japanese models strutted the Closet in Chisato’s collection - such as this eccentric black outfit with a painted daisy motif.

image

Chisato relied on hand-drawn prints that look painted rather messily, to give the collection a feeling of youth, freshness, and playfulness. And it worked like a charm.

image

This black sequined top glimmered with perfection, showing Chisato’s flexibility and her ability to go into simple refined, and chic directions.

This gorgeous salmon top expresses Chisato’s collection perfectly. Quirky, yet wearable. With the “Mountain Venus” print, it transports you into a fairy world of its own.

image

Here’s another look at an ink blue tunic with the same illustration by Chisato

image

More sneak peeks at what the collection has in store for us. Black tops with gold sequins - very showgirl material, colorful pants, and more tops with hand painted motifs.

image

image

This celestial dress ia magnificent! With a gorgeous pink silk belt, it has a magical solar print. You really feel like you’r ein outer space just looking at it.

image

I loved this piece - with embroidery and glimmer, it was surprisingly elaborate yet not over the top. Perfect for special occasions and luxury events.

image

And of course, the shoes! Imagine such vibrant prints on your feet! I was absolutely in love with these colorful scarf-printed flats.

image

Last but not least, the display of accessories was brilliant. The pieces were simple, elegant, and femininet, it left everyone in the Closet with jaws hanging out wanting nothing but to strut the streets of Qatar in all these fashion delights!

The Ultimate Fashion Event

image

Welcome to the Vogue festival, darling! Right this way :)

image

 image

Words cannot describe how fun the festival was. It was a melting pot of all the biggest names in fashion under one roof.

With workshops, talks, and an overdose of fabulosity, being among fashion royalty was a true highlight for me.

Street Style

image

Printed pants are really, really in. Ladies were trying to make an impression iwth quirky, geometrical b&w prints and high, suede platform heels. Leather jackets gave these girls an edge. I vote: Yes.

image

Some opted for a more casual style like this lady right here. She opted for a peach accordion skirt with a graphic top and a warm cardigan, and kept it real with white sneakers.

image

The two ladies here opted for a more hugh-fashion oriented style. An all-black overcoat with a black top and a white collar popping from underneath were matched perfectly with a gorgeous red leather bag and simple black flats with cute lip prints on them.

image

The men were not short on fab street style themselves: This gentleman right here went for a Lacoste-esque look with mocassins, navy pants, a white polo, and a red sweater over his shoulders, very casual, refined, and chic.

image

This lady right here looks stunning. With metallic, sharp-tipped stilettos, she’s all black with tights and a voluminous overcoat. And what complements her perfectly is that big, crimson birkin bag made of croc leather, to give her a vampy, sexy look.

Of course, at the Vogue festival, nothing less than absolutely excellent street style is expected from everyone who attends. There were lots of high, high heels, flowing skirts, fabulous coats, and printed pants. Everyone was dressed top-notch and I was beyond impressed.

The Talkies

image

image

The ever so fabulous Donatella Versace gave her extremely interesting talk at the festival, giving everyone some really in-depth details about what goes on behind the scenes at her label.

She spoke about how top models would fight over what to wear during runway shows, about how Gianni, her late brother, taught her to never be afraid, and how challenging it was to step up as creative director of Versace when Gianni was murdered in ‘97.

An insightful woman - who wears nothing but heels and tight pants, she admits - Donatella is a true force-of-fashion and listening to her talk and meeting her were both great honors for me.

image

Victoria Beckham was rated as potentially the most well-spoken, elegant, and humorous speaker in the entire festival. She cracked a lot of jokes and even made fun of herself, showing people that she’s not particularly as uptight and mean as her image is most of the time. In the end, Posh is just a humble, well-spoken, good-mannered girl who loves fashion, beauty and glamor. She spoke about how grateful she is to the industry.

image

Of course, catching a glimpse of her walking to her car was potentially the highlight of the entire festival! She is such an elegant, beautiful, petite woman.

image

And that’s not the end of it - there were so many other cool talks by people like Alber Elbaz and David Gandy. It was a highly inspirational and motivating experience to attend these talks by people who are so successful, famous, and prominent in the beautiful world of fashion and glamor. It really gives one a lot of hope to move forward!

Luxos

image

I was excited and terrified at the same time when the time came to mail the invitations to all my loyal clients to come attend the Luxos Fashion Show.

Being such a big event, I wanted to make sure that everything would go perfectly, and I needed things to be smooth and exceed everyone’s expectations. image

The beautiful flyers were up, and we were ready to go.

The Luxos Fashion Show was held in The Great Ballroom at the St. Regis Hotel, and had a huge list of respectable attendees who shine in the world of fashion, and who we were more than honored to have.

image

A backstage shot with Fouad Sarkis and the Pace e Luce, Luxos, and Naseem Al Andalos teams!

Hair was courtesy of Pace e Luce, the masters of glamor and sophistication - and they made sure every model was as gorgeous as she can be!

La Noce were the official decorators and organizers of the event, and we think they did a beautiful job. It was elegant and extremely classy!

And then, it was showtime!

image

The Beautiful Maissa Maghraby hosted the show.

image

Alongside the wonderful & glamorous Aline Watfa.

So glad to have you girls!

What was extremely engaging and special about the overall show was that we hosted some of the most eclectic and brilliant designers that all came together for that one night and create a sort of fashion melting pot.

Dar Naseem Al Andalus was one of the designer houses that was part of the show.

Some of the final fittings being done right before the show. Isn’t this design lovely?

Here’s Mayssa Maghraby checking out Nassem Al Andalos’ designs backstage before the show!

Next was Fouad Sarkis, who even extended his stay in Doha as per clients’ requests. We were so thrilled that he was such a big hit

I personally think his designs are brilliant, feminine, and elegant.

Another designer whose works we hosted was Rami Kadi from Lebanon.

image

image

image

Rami’s strictly glamorous approach to women’s designs made his works a huge hit. Everyone was taken away by the amount of sophistication, detail, and femininity in his designs.

image

Oh, and we spotted some people in the gorgeous Dafa Couture new collection pieces!

Another house that we featured was the beautiful M Jay Designs.

image

What I love about their work is that it is so eclectic. With so many colors, textures, and concepts, you can never get bored with M Jay.

The event was a huge hit and I say that with so much gratitude for everyone who helped me put it together as well as the beautiful fashion-lovers who attended and made it all possible.

All I can say is, I am proud of my wonderful team, and cannot wait for future projects like this.

On to the next one!

Dafa in the House

The fabulous brand Dafa Couture is the most recent addition to the Jo Lamode boutique! And for that, we would like to give a huge welcome to the fabulously modern and luxurious brand by giving a little review of their 2013 collection.

image

Dafa’s collection is unbelievable chic. The 2013 line is centered around shoulder pad detailing as you can see in the lookbook. With sequins and chunky patterns, this piece is simple yet the shoulder pad glamor gives it the high-fashion, feminine touch.

imageGold is always such a difficult color to work with and Dafa are definitely bold to experiment with it. This piece is fabulous! With glittering gold circles across its sleeves, this abaya screams royalty.

image

More shoulder pad detailing in this pice with gold motifs, this abaya has a bit of a warrior princess touch, feminine but bold and assertive.

image

With perhaps a nineties-inspired modern-day detailing on the shoulders—and down to the sleeves—this piece is glamorous! The pearls seem to drip from the shoulders, a real masterpiece.

image

Going in amore tribal direction, this piece has some wild, frilly sleeves that give it a cowboy-meets-arab-princess feel. It’s quirky, experimental, and bold!

image

Last but not least I chose t his fabulous piece because of how well the detailing goes with the frills on the shoulders. There is almost a Michael Jackson inspiration behind this abaya which is brilliant  and yet the glittering details do not clash with the solid black color of the piece but complements it.

Again I’d like to welcome Dafa into our boutique! Stay updated and follow our blog for constant fill-ins about what’s new at Jo Lamode!

Darz Fashion Show

image

I was beyond excited when I got invited as an Elite Member to the Darz Design fashion show! It was a highly luxurious and very exclusive event that I had the pleasure of attending - the launch of their latest work: The Original Collection.

Being one of Jo Lamode’s favorite clients, Darz would open their new collection with a groundbreaking event.

The event took place at the Hilton, which was one of the sponsors for the fashion show, among many other brilliant names like David Martinez from the Blue Brush Hair studio who have the models their fabulous hairdos!

image

First of all, I would love to say that the models were drop-dead-gorgeous! Lovely faces, beautiful personalities, and flattering silhouettes.

image

The make up brought out the femninine seductress in every model. Sultry, simple, beautiful.

image

David Martinez himself showed up and gave the whole atmosphere a fabulous twist!

image

We really felt pampered with all the goodie bags :)

 image

And the setup was brilliant - the purple and white flowers were gorgeous.

 image

I was very happy to run into some public figures like Hanane El Emadi from Qatar TV. Hanane was only one of the many celebrities that came to watch the show

Such as the beautiful Latifa!

and the glamorous Raya Al Khalifa in her wonderful vintage jewelry.

 image

And of course none of this would have been possible without the wonderful Darz girls who put everything together. Proud!

 image

Sneak peek of the live event straight from my phone!

The models were adorned with items from boutiques such as The Closet multi-brand boutique and Al Jaber jewelry boutique, who were also generous sponsors for the event. It was not just about abayas but the jewelry from Al Jaber and the dresses from The Closet exhibited a whole, overall look. It felt like more than a fashion show, but a parade of glamor and beauty, with intelligent and beautiful styling.

image

Here are some stills from the lookbook, just to get a hint of the collection. This abaya is traditional and feminine - simple yet fashionable, I love it.

image

This one has a more elaborate twist - with an evening gown feel and a coquettish design.

The Original Collection is Darz’s first 2013 collection! That’s a big step that I was happy to be part of. The collection is another testament from Darz to preserve their sense of style, elegance, and ingenuity - a promise for all the Darz loyal customers. With a lot of traditional influences and repeated detailing and patterns, the collection spanned 40 pieces - Haute Couture and otherwise.

And last but no least, the revamped Darz website looks great and we are thrilled to be listed in the Stocklist!

I am so proud of Darz and happy to share with you their latest endeavors. Much success to come, God willing, and stay tuned with our blog to see the latest from the fabulous fashion world of Jo Lamode!

Detail is King

On the 9th & 10th of March, Abayat Al Fakhira dropped by Jo Lamode to exhibit their latest collec. The event was a great hit and we’re blogging about this gorgeously simple yet detailed collection.

image

This piece is absolutely flatering to the silhouette with a black silk bowtie belt, gives it a playful, feminine feel.

image

Al Fakhira are relying heavily on small but efficient detailing to make up for the silky smooth neutral black. Here, some artsy sun-flowers are peppered on the sleeves and chest.

image

Again with the well-crafted detailed cutouts sprinkled around this abaya.

image

The details are unmissable in this one! With a De LaRenta touch, this piece is laced with an ornamental/floral motif, very elegant and refined.

image

Some dazzling, shiny fern leaf motifs on this abaya give it a touch of glamorized nature.

Available at Jo Lamode, Abayat Al Fakhira can make any woman feel special - with its intricate detailing, its deceiving simplicity, and its never-ending commitment to luxury!

We all know about DAS’s obsession with refined arabesque calligraphy - and we love it. We can tell that calligraphy is coming back in the new collection, more colorful and detailed than ever.

The Modern and the Traditional

image

HANIA is no stranger to getting good reviews for each and every collection. The Saudi designer, Hania Al Braikan has gotten quite a good reputation in the fashion world.

Her abayas have an uncanny ability to mix modernity with a hint of tradition, and that is always a clever choice for any modern Arab fashion designer: There is a connection to the heritage and there is always a futuristic twist to prove that - just like the fashion world - everything is still up-to date.

From March 2-6, we hosted Hania and her new collection at our boutique, only to get absolutely fabulous reviews, such as Sarah Muhanna who recently blogged about the event and expressed her satisfaction.

Inspired by the fusion of  Asian and Indian cultures into the Middle East, the collection is highly orientalist, very diverse, and expertly crafted.

Hania Al Braikan herself stated that she loved to launch her new collection in Qatar especially at Jolamode because its “very chic, cozy, and luxurious.”

Designer Hania Al Braikan

As you will see in the below photo shoot of Hania’s new collection, the rustic Arab roots are present with a mixture of a contemporary twist! Let’s see some key pieces from the collection:

image

This abaya is just as subtle as the dry earth beneath our feet. With dry cracking lines down its length - and also forming the cuts on the sleeves and necklines - this piece looks like a sculpture in its own way. With heavy detailing on the sleeves, it mixes organic and gamorous.

image

With lots of black embellishment on its top, this deceivingly simple abaya is actually a refined statement for glamor. There is a simplicity in it that hides the extravagance. It mixes the chic, feminine, and the classic.

image

Futurism is the way to go in this piece. With the spring-like sleeves - a very nifty Gaultier touch - this abaya’s skeletal form is a true modern statement in the world of today’s fashion; showing us how the avant-garde can be concealed in the subtlety of a feminine design.

image

Lace? Of course! We love lace, and what can be more endearing than lace “fins” adorning the sleeves of this gorgeous design? It’s magical, fairy-like.

image

One of Hania’s strengths is that she knows when and how to use color. Surely black is always the norm in her designs, but in rare occasions like this, she uses a sprinkle of color to break the harshness of solid black. The swan-like pink detailing around this piece’s collar makes the ultimate statement!

image

Color once again takes centerstage in a HANIA design, here in the form of sleek ice blue stripes and adornments. This piece flows like cool water, absolutely lovely.

image

image

And of course, on top of everything, we would like to express how proud of Hania we are for her fabulous collection, as well as her latest feature in Harper’s Bazaar Arabia.

Much success to come!
